Privacy Policy

How the Geological Society of Africa handles your personal data.

1. Introduction

The Geological Society of Africa (“GSAf”, “we”, “us”) is committed to protecting the personal information of our members, subscribers, and website visitors. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your data when you use our website or services.

2. Data We Collect

When you register as a member or subscribe to our newsletter, we collect: your name, email address, institution, country, professional biography, research keywords, and academic identifiers (ORCID, Google Scholar, etc.). Payment transactions are processed by Paystack or Stripe — we do not store card details.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • To manage your GSAf membership
  • To display your public profile in the members directory (active members only)
  • To send you GSAf newsletters and event announcements (where subscribed)
  • To process membership payments
  • To comply with our legal obligations

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell or rent your personal data to third parties. We may share limited data with payment processors (Paystack, Stripe) solely for the purpose of processing your membership fee. Your public profile (name, institution, country, keywords) may be visible to other logged-in GSAf members in the directory.

5. Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You may also withdraw your newsletter subscription at any time. To exercise these rights, contact us at secretary@gsafr.org.
